The International Workshop on Building the Asian CoralWatch Coral Reef Ambassador Hub was successfully held from October 28–30, 2025, at the Marine Affairs Research Center, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST). The event was jointly organized by NKUST in collaboration with The University of Queensland (Australia), the World Underwater Federation (CMAS), the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology (NMMST), and the Fisheries Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The workshop featured a diverse program, including field investigations, international keynote sessions, and curriculum development discussions:

  • Field Studies in Pingtung and Hengchun:
Participants conducted coral health assessments, environmental data collection, and snorkeling/SCUBA-based reef surveys using the CoralWatch methodology.

  • International Expert Forum:
Scholars from Australia, Mexico, and Taiwan delivered keynote presentations on global coral monitoring, citizen science, scientific diving, and applications of AI-based marine technologies.

  • Curriculum Development Workshop:
CoralWatch Ambassadors collaborated to design the framework for the Asian Coral Reef Ambassador training program, curriculum direction, and regional cooperation strategies.

The outcomes of the workshop were featured on the official website of CMAS (World Underwater Federation), highlighting NKUST and the Marine Affairs Research Center’s growing visibility in global coral conservation and ocean education networks.

This workshop successfully strengthened international scientific collaboration and laid a solid foundation for developing the Asian CoralWatch Coral Reef Ambassador Hub.
